You are in: Glencoe & Kinlochleven
The history and the mountains of this wild area combine to make its name reverberate across the globe.
There is the vastness of Rannoch Moor.
There are the mountains east of Glen Etive which include the White Corries Ski Centre. There are the mountains at the head of Glen Etive with the great guardian of Buchaille Etive Mor. There are the mountains of Glencoe itself with the Three Sisters of Bidean Nam Bian on the left as you drive down the glen. There is the great ridge of Aonach Eagach with its rock pinnacles between Glencoe and Loch Leven.
To the envy of all climbers and walkers, Jimmy Savile lives just below the Devil’s Staircase which crosses the eastern shoulder of the Aonach Eagach ridge over to Kinlochleven.
Glencoe is the most popular rock and ice climbing area in Scotland, also offering endless challenge and variety for walkers.

Driving the glen – in either direction at any tine of the day or year – is a powerful experience. This is arguably the most stunning main road in the UK.
The massacre in Glencoe of the MacDonalds of Glencoe by Campbell units of the British standing army has become an icon of treachery and divided loyalties. The facts often defy the legend but its potency is too long established in the imagination to be much affected by them.
