Argyll - Climbing
You are in: Argyll :: Activities :: Climbing
Climbing The main mountain ranges in Argyll are:
  • The Arrochar Alps - lying west and northwest of Arrochar at the head of Loch Long. These include the Munros (over 3000 ft) of Beinn Ime, Beinn Vorlich, Beinn Namain and Beinn Vane - as well as the most physically gothic of them all, Beinn Arthur, or ‘The Cobbler’ and Beinn Luibhean, both Corbetts (2500 – 3500 ft).
  • Glencoe and Glen Etive - This area is bounded in the west by Loch Linnhe, the north by Loch Leven, the south by Loch Etive and the north shore of Loch Awe and in the east by Glen Orchy. It is a climbers’ and walkers’ playground, with challenges of 26 Munros, including Bidean Nam Bian, Beinn Cruachan, Buchaille Etive Beag, Buachaille Etive Mor and the awesome ridge of Aonach Eagach with its rock castle. It also has the rock climber’s virility test of the Clachaig Gully in Glencoe featured in the third Harry Potter film, The Prisoner of Azbakan.
