Argyll Whisky Distilleries, Part 2

Tobermory Distillery / Isle of Mull
The only distillery on the Isle of Mull, founded in 1798. It changed hands a few times before it closed in 1930. In 1972 it re-opened under the name of Ledaig Distillery, but only to go into receivership just 3 years later. In 1990 the distillery started production again, and in 1993 it was finally bought over by Burn Stewart. The Ledaig line of whisky (Ledaig 1974 and 1979, Ledaig 15y old and 20y old) which is made with peated barley, is still in production today, although only in small quantities. The Tobermory line is produced with unpeated barley, and bottled as Tobermory 10y old.
Glen Scotia Distillery / Campbeltown

Springbank Distillery / Campbeltown
Founded in 1828 by John and William Mitchel and remained in the family ever since. One of only two distilleries in Scotland who produce, mature and bottle their products on the same premises. The distilleries has 3 stills, although not all of the whisky they produce is distilled 3 times. The range includes Springbank 10y, 12y, 15y, 21y, 25y, 30y up to 50 year old, and the Longrow range. No chill filtering or artificial colouring used.
Highland Park Distillery / Orkney Islands
Strictly speaking this is not an Argyll distillery, but should be mentioned here. Highland Park Distillery is the last working distillery on the Orkney Islands. Established by Magnus Eunson in the 1790s, probably as an illegal distillery with links to smuggling activities. By the end of the 18th century the number of stills were increased from 2 to 4, in 1935 Highland Distilleries Co. Ltd bought over the complex. The product range includes Highland Park 12y old, 18y old, 25y old and Highland Park 1958, 1974 and 1977.
