The nature of islands allow only limited means of travel, in this case transport is reduced to sea and air, although busses operate on the mainland to give you access to the ferries.

Access to the island of Islay is given by the A846, leading from Port Askaig via Bowmore to Port Allen, and the branching A847 from Bridgend north of Bowmore to Portnahaven on the west coast.
Jura’s only major road gets you from Feolin Ferry via Craighouse to Ardlussa, where it terminates.
Compared to Jura Colonsay’s Road network is impressive! From the main town Scalasaig a small road (named B8086) leads to Kilchattan and Kiloran, from where you can either return on an alternative route to Scalasaig, or stay on the B8086 until it terminates in Balnahard.
A car hire is available at Islay airport, run by D & N McKenzie. Traffic on the islands is usually low, roads are often single-tracked.

A regular link is operated by Calmac between Kennacraig in Kintyre and Port Askaig and Port Allen on Islay, a further small route connects Port Askaig with Fiofin on the Isle of Jura. Colonsay is accessible via ferry from Kennacraig in Kintyre, Port Askaig on Islay, or alternatively via ferry link to Oban. For further information please visit
